Boys Like Us is Madeleine Daste’s documentary directorial debut. The film explores the Los Angeles queer scene through the lives of masculine-presenting queers— including trans men, butch lesbians, and nonbinary mascs. It highlights the everyday success and vibrant community they’ve built in a space that celebrates them, even as the broader political climate seeks to erase them. Against this charged political backdrop, these queer participants move through the world with humility, joy, and self-made lives. At its core, Boys Like Us examines what it costs to fully find yourself.
